Tips for Landing a Job from the Pioneer Press
- Dress appropriately, even if you are just going to pick up an application.
- Make the application look good. Be as neat as possible and check your spelling.
- Try to meet the person who is doing the hiring. Then you can do an interview rather than just leaving an application.
- Relax-the interviewer was once in your shoes. The more comfortable you are, the better impression you will make.
- Smile and talk. Many jobs require talking with customers. Smile when you introduce yourself and look at the person you are speaking to.
- Find out what is important to the interviewer.
- Find out something about the business in advance and use that information in the interview.
- Be persistent. Keep applying at different places until you get hired.
