The Role of a Professional School Counselor

The professional school counselor is a certified/licensed educator trained in school counseling. School counselors address the needs of students through the implementation of a comprehensive, standard-based, developmental school counseling program.

School counselors help students focus on academic, career, and social/emotional development so they achieve success in school and are prepared to lead fulfilling lives as responsible members of society.

School counselors work with all students through:

  • Individual Counseling
  • Small Group Counseling
  • Classroom Counseling
  • Consultation
  • Collaboration with staff, families, and community members
